DIY repairs to mini

As I brought my mini from a dealership I have 1 year warrenty on it. So i called them up to fix a few of my problems.

Registered 2003, Mini cooper S, JCW tuning kit.

Some of them are covered by my warrenty, ie, new clutch, door sill, window rattling.
When I brake I hear some kind of rattling towards the back of my car, the garage has informed me that its my exhaust, and that it would cost £234 to replace the centre section of the exhuast
My centre dash top needs replacing as its rattling.. but im unsure why its at the price of £293.57.

They have quoted me £177 to get my rear brake pads replaced as they said they've completely worn out. Ooops.

So I am currently just gettin the things under warrenty replaced and the rear brake pads.

Any one have any ideas what i could do about the rattling comin from my exhaust?! Don't particularly want to spend £234 on it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Will they not cover the exhaust part under the warranty?
I would of thought they would be more inclinde to cover the exhaust than the rear brake pads?

My own opinion here is that the only work that isn't covered by the warranty is the brake pads.

As far as the exhaust is concerned they will tell you it is a wear and tear item. But if you only bought the car recently, and have covered reasonable miles since, then it should be covered.

And why should you be paying for a new dash top?

There are several Service Bulletins (M510502 and M510805) which address dash rattles. They involve fitting felt tape underneath the dash top. Unless the dash top is cracked or the attachment points are broken it shouldn't need replacing.

they said that the exhuast it not covered in the warrenty, I will call them up again to ask why.

I told them that i could hear rattling when i was driving, so have no idea why they are telling me to replace the centre dash top? (maybe they're tryin to rip me off )
To me the dash seemed fine and in good condition.

I brought the car in Feb 2007, and have only covered 6,000 miles in them.

Had my exhaust replaced under cherished warranty after 7 - 8 months, rattling.

Good girls are just bad girls who haven't been caught yet.

When you brought your Mini did the dealers supply a booklet explaning "Mini Cherished" as on Page 9 of booklet its states what is/not covered and in the "not covered " section there is no mention of exhuasts, they could class it as not covered under "wear and tear" but only 6000 miles in 6 months since you got your Mini I would not class under wear and tear on your part.

Also take a look on Mini`s website at Cherished details as they state "We even guarantee the battery and exhaust system" under the 12 months warranty section.
Hope this helps.

ok as my mini has a JCW kit on, and was fitted in 2003, its run out, but mini said that they are going to write to BMW for some kind of goodwill thing... so that I dont have to pay for it to be fixed...(fingers crossed).

You're talking about the exhaust again here I assume. True JCW accessories only have a two year warranty. But even if it is a JCW exhaust, you bought the car with a 12 month cherished warranty, and JCW is MINI approved. There should be no good will about it, the cherished warranty should cover the JCW parts too.

What about the dash top?
