Newbie - problems with power steering

Can anyone help

Have an 02 plate mini cooper with intermitent loss of powe steering, driving along and the occaisonaly the power sterring just goes. stop the car restart and all appears OK again. short journeys about 10 miles to work and back in general.

Any help?

Sounds like a problem with the power steering pump or the wiring to the pump. I had to have two pumps replaced on my 53 Cooper within the first six monthsof buying it. It first started when I left the car for short periods like filling up with petrol or doing some shopping. It never happened whislt driving though which sounds quite worrying. Then eventually I wouldn't have any power steering at all and the car had to be brought back to the dealers on a recovery vehicle as I was told it was unsafe to drive in that state. After having the second pump fitted there was never another problem with it.

Power steering pump is failing, lots on this if you do a search. This is what you will need:-

You're lucky to have a warning. My power steering pump failed suddenly when I was on a busy roundabout. Could easily have killed someone.

I have this exact problem. Only bought the car 2 weeks ago and already had to have the reverse light switch replaced.

Hopefully this will be covered by the warranty aswell.

ME TOO. I am a 40yr old woman and had my 10yr old in the car with me. I am still furious with Mini UKs dismissive reply, trying to tell me it was general wear and tear..
Well I tore his head off down the phone and eventually got the part supplied but not fitted free.
Sods. I will be selling soon and wont ever buy another mini or bmw.
I think the build quality is poor compared to comparable priced other German cars.

I have good knowledge of cars, and we have a collection of a dozen old cars. My Mini is my daily, not some silly toy. It needs to work.

You need to get it fixed and dont take anything less than 100% part supplied free from Mini uk.
