Intermittent Battery Light

We have a 50k mile 52-reg Cooper S which has recently started illuminating the battery warning light on an intermittent basis. There seems to be no pattern to when the light comes on. It is usually whilst driving and quite often goes out when changing gear or if the car jolts. It also went out when the car was stationary and the engine was revved. It doesn't come on every journey and when it does, it only stays on for a few seconds.

I have checked the wiring harness that goes to the PAS pump because I've read that it sometimes wears on the bracket to which it is attached, but everything seems OK.

Has anybody had this problem or know any likely cause?

Hi, did you manage to isolate the problem? I'm experiencing the same...

Sounds like your battery or the connections are bad to me. If it checks, look at the charging system, this is what the warning light is for.
