Hi!

This is my first post, hello to everyone on here :)

My 04 cooper convertible is not opening properly. It opening to the first sunroof point and then tries to open fully. However the drivers side mechanical clip which locates in the windscreen pillar disengages ok but the passenger side doesnt move and seems to be jammed in place... The motors are wining away trying to put the hood down but since the passenger clip hasn't released the hood doesn't move.

Hope you can help as the MINI is out of warranty!

Many thanks

Kramix, this is also my first post. The VERY same thing just happened yesterday with my Wife's Mini Cooper convertible, you have described the exact same sequence. She also has an 04 plate. Did you get it fixed and what was it ? i am told there is a re-set micra button switch in the boot ? but one side does attempt to work while the passenger side stays firmly in place. Vehicle is also out of warrranty, Any help would be appreciated.

I too have a mini cooper cab 04 plate - its roof had been struggling for a while - but on 29/8 gave up the ghost - opened to sunroof but would do no more

I was unable to wind manual so had to return to my dealer - who have said that a cable is snapped & needs repairing

I am currently waiting for Mini to reply to my dealer re a goodwill gesture to contribute to this cost.

I have always said my vehicle was a friday afternoon car - but this would appear to be a more regular fault

Hi tofto,
Same problem as you the day before you!
Took my out of warranty 04 One to the MINI dealer on Saturday and they told me I have to have the frame replaced for about £800 plus £400 for work. Sounds quite steep to me. Wonder if anyone on this forum had the problem fixed out of warranty, where, when and how much for? Many thanks, Martin

Hi everybody,
6 months ago same thing happen to my '05 convertible. The front part open, then 1 side doesn't want to unlash. The car was just out of warranty and the dealer explain that I needed to have half of the frame replaced for +/- $2500 (Orlando, Florida dealer). My dad couldn't beleive it. So he looked at the roof frame and found a broken plastic part that make the latch lock in the front. Called the dealer, can't buy that part, took the part to a machine shop that copied the part in aluminum and OVERCHARGED us $400 make 2 of it. Guess what, last week the other side broke, so my $400 investment made me saved $5000.

Hi all,

After a full day, my mums car hood wouldn't fully go down, it started to go down but stopped at the second stage. We searched a trawled lots of posts, took out the parcel shelf and tried various rituals and pressing different buttons in different sequences lol. But it was a simple as the parcel shelf was on a higher level. It needs to be on the bottom level to use the roof, as it rests on a button on the left hand side of a boot that tells the roof it is ok to fully retract. The manual spoke nothing of this button. So hope this saves someone 7 hours of various prayers, dances, trips to the dealer like it has us, then great. Thanks sooooo much to another post on this site.

roof cables

To all mini owners with the dreaded roof cables snapping, i recently repaired my girlfriend roof cable. im a convertible roof specialist for a main dealer. the whole repair cost me around 30 pound, i just had to locate a company that dealt with boat cables as this is what is fitted to the roof/sunroof assy. the passenger side is slightly more difficult as it also triggers the hall sensors for the roof position. if you require repairs or a guide how to repair dont hesitate to email me regards chris razzariley@hotmail.co.uk

Help my Mini Cooper 54 covertable is a money pit!!!! today the roof wouldn't open properly (hottest day of the year) at first it would open to a sunroof but then the red light flashed so I closed it and tried to reopen it but the driver side won't unlatch :S I am praying I don't need a new roof frame and after reading some posts on here hoping someone can advise me on getting parts or getting it repaired without having to involve BMW dealership. Really miffed...HELP!

Hi,
I'm having slightly the same problems with my 54 reg mini one convertible. My roof went down earlier today with no hassle, done it back up when parked in car park, upon return it didn't open!? It made a few clicking sounds in the boot, then went on to make a rather loud noise as if something is turning but the clips aren't unclipping at the front. The sound seems to be coming from the central plastic section above your head. Any ideas on what the fault could be / whether it's an easy fix?! Typical now the weather is hot!! Thanks.

Can anyone help me please? I previously posted on here a couple of days ago.
The soft top on my 54 plate mini is completely jammed - ie not even going back to the sunroof position (on either side). Since then we have removed the central casing over the motor that pulls back the roof. Pushed an Allan key into the motor and forced the roof back to the sunroof position, I've greased the sections where the roof slides and tried shutting / opening using the usual button. Although still it won't open/ shut on its own accord (I've had to physically force it open and shut whilst pressing the button). The parcel shelf is in the correct position and I've even turned the hydraulic screw in the boot 1.5 times (and back again). Still nothing is working. Does anybody have any possible solutions, please? The last thing I want to do is take it to BMW garage!

Many thanks

Did you fix the roof?

Hey,

I bought a used Mini Cooper S convertible yesterday. The roof worked fine before I bought it. Within 5 mins after buying, the roof stopped working. Maybe it got damaged whilst I was opening the sunroof part, whilst doing 50 MPH (?). Shouldn't get damaged that way but who knows.

ANyway I know it's been years for you but if you're still receiving email about this thred, please let me know how you fixed it.
My symptomes are exactly the same as yours. Makes sounds, but no movement whatsoever.

I listened whist pressing the open/close button on each side of the roof, and things are clunking away. So I wonder if something just lost contact / isn't latching on like before.

Also does anyone know what the brass screw is for, in the small compartment in the boot (near those switched that rely on the shelf pressing down on them).

Thanks

Hi, I phoned around a few roof specialists and they all say it's a common faut with the roof cables snapping, cheapest I could find to replace both cables was £650 including labour. BMW charge £450.00 for the parts alone!!! all I can suggest is you ring around and maybe you will be lucky and get a cheaper quote, good luck :) Oh the link is no good for older model mini's :( so no good for a 54 reg.
