Fumes from the car in front!!??

On my MCS if I stop too close to the car in front I can always smell the fumes… Some times its so strong.

I also drive an A3 and a Polo but don’t ever seem to notice this on any of these cars only on the Mini. And if I just stop without a car in front I don’t smell it..

Do any of you guys & girls noticed this? The MCS has just been to an oil change, could they not have fitted the pollen filter?

Me and the Girlfriend noticed this the other day, it's awful. What was worse was the driver in-front was smoking with what looked like his son in a school uniform also smoking in the back. Was a rather sad sight!!

Yeah, this annoys me as well. I often end up turning the ventilation to recirculation mode, but by the time you've realised you can smell it it's in the car.

I only really notice other fumes if it's an older car that's pumping out real fumes, and it usually passes.

But surely the filters should be stopping these smells and fumes coming in?

My friend had a problem similar to this on his MCS, and they took it to Cooper Maidstone who agreed, and figured out there was a recall on this model and infact it was theirown car giving off the fumes when stopped in traffic or at the lights....

Maby a possibility?

There are two different kinds of microfilter, the type for auto aircon and the type for nomal aircon. If your nose is particularly sensitive then pay a little extra and have the slightly thicker auto aircon filter fitted, that is if you havent already.

OK, here is what I found out.

There are 2 different filters available.

One is normal: 64311496710
Costs £18:25

The other is marketed as
Active carbon filter (which in theory should be a better filter) 64311496711
Costs £19:19

But my local parts department didn’t know the different and said “for the MCS, it’s the one ending in 710 that they use!”

I might try the 711 to see if that helps.. but £20 quid for a pollen filter! Audi use to charge me some thing like £8.99!
