Brake Warning Light RESET

Hello, long time since I was last here.

2003 MoD

Warning light came on for brake pads low, so changed them. Although pads were only half worn (30k miles) which I thought was strange, but carried on anyway for all they cost.

Warning light is/has been on for last few months still.

Bugging me now so I revisted here tonight after a long absence. I have tried the following:

1. Press and hold run flat in ignition II several times, no outcome.
2. Disconnect battery, leave for 2-3mins, reconnect, no outcome.

Iv been advised to cut off sensors and loop wires, but before I go to this hassle, will it work or is there other alternatives?

ANY IDEA's?

Thanks guys.

ps. im not buying new sensors - I'll know when the pads are known, I dont need a bleeding light.

Something has shorted the leads in the sensor or its harness. You will need to replace it to get the light off. The sensor keeps signalling the light to burn. This is a cheap part and is easy to change. An interesting note, I just finished changing all my pads and my 03 MC has no sensor.

I ordered both the front and rear brake pad wear sensors from Derek Woodman for only about £25-ish together (can't remember exactly off the top of my head right now). I'd go ahead and do that if I were you.

It's not something shorted in the sensor, it's an open circuit in the sensor circuit. The sensor wires are normally shorted together in the part of the sensor attached to the pad. When the pad wears enough to allow the sensor to contact the disk, the sensor is worn away, breaking the connection. Check all the connections in the sensor circuit.

For a start all you need to do is leave the igniton on in position 2 for about 30 seconds to reset the pad light.

Everyone else is lying to you. stop giving out duff advice people!

The brake pad warning light was an option up-to approx 53 reg and then after that it was fitted as standard after that, hence some earlier MINIs have brake pad sensors & some don't .

This quote is from a post that I did for someone else, I don't want to worry you but it could be worth a look .

Over the years I have seen tape corrugated plastic (conduct) put on the edge of the bracket to try and prevent damage by Main Dealers as part of warranty work (sometimes without the owners knowledge) hence this fault also can't be ruled out and you need to make sure this isn't happening .

I'm not totally sure that brake pad sensor wires go to the ABS module but it's still worth a look .
