Driver Window + Rear Washer Jet Problems

I wondered if anyone would be able to offer me some advice, I am a girl and recently bought myself a Mini.

But I have a couple of queries that i thought you might be able to help me with.

The drivers side electric windown doesn't go fully up about 5mm too low, so when driving along it sounds like the door is open. When i slam the door the window goes up a little but not as much as the passenger side.

Also the rear washer jet does spray but the fronts do, is there anywhere obvious to check the pipe work anywhere? It sounds blocked as when you go to squirt the pump whirrs.

Really love my new car but need to iron out these problems - please help!

As to the windows try this...
1 Get in the car, and turn on the ignition.
2 Lower the window fully using the switch, and when its at the bottom, continue to hold the switch for a few more seconds.
3 Raise the window fully using the switch, again at the top hold the switch on for a few more seconds.
4 Re-test the windows....

This recently worked on a brand new Clubman with the same problem.

As for the rear wash stick a pin in the nozzle (might have some muck in it?) and while the pin is in there, check and adjust the angle in case it's missing the window?

Oh and welcome to MINI2

However, I think I can point you in the right direction here.

There are a few recent threads that cover this issue with the rear washer jet. See here:
Windscreen Washers Inactive (12th Jan 2008)
washer jet problem (8th Jan 2008)
Problem with rear wash wipe (Nov 2007)*
*And from that Nov 2007 thread, here's a post I made that included a solution (with clickable links to my reference threads from earlier dates):

Rear Window Washer Not Working (February 2007)
Rear Wiper Spray Not Working (May 2007)
What worked for me was a combination of the pin and then flushing vast quantities of warm water through the system. I should note that it probably wouldn't be a good idea to put boiling water through, as I'm pretty sure this would mess up (possibly melt) the tubing or containers. So I used approximately 750mL of boiling water added to 250mL of tap water to get 1000mL (1 litre) of 'warm water'. It did take some considerable time to put this much water though the rear washer jets - but I'm convinced it was worth it as it seems to have everything flowing freely now.

That issue addressed, I used the tip of my MINI key to turn the nozzle at the rear to ensure it was pointing in such a way to provide good coverage of the rear screen.

And just to make sure we've got our bases covered, it's important to remember that the lines to the rear windows are more prone to freezing than are the front nozzles. I've got the heated mirrors/washers package and I'm convinced that the heated affect only works for the front nozzles. So, it's important to make sure you have a concentrated enough fluid for the winter months, as discussed here:
Window washer not working ! (March 2007)
So, hopefully that sorts out your problem. Let us all know how it goes and if you can now see what's creeping up behind you through a lovely and clean rear windscreen.

All the best,
Andrew.

So those are some things you could try. Hopefully someone else can chime in with some tips on the window.

Good luck!
Andrew.

Edit: It seems chrisandjax already got in there with a post about the window whilst I was compiling my rear washer thesis. Good stuff!

Sounds like the window just needs to be reset, as per post by chrisandjax. This operation is also explained in the user manual.

I think you have plenty of info on the rear washer.

Question

Thanks for the quik reply !!

That doesn't work :'(. My boyfriend thinks it may be the regulator or the motor mechanism ?? Could this be right, and if so, how can i go about getting it fixed ??

Anybody got any more ideas or opinions.

Many thanks

Was your car bought from a MINI dealership? If it was I'd just take it back and get them to sort the issues. I had blocked front washers (plus loads of other problems!) and they sorted all of these out for me. If you bought it privately then obviously this won't be any help to you, so in that case, sorry

Heya,

Just took my car to the local mini dealership and they wanted 110 pounds for an hour af techincian time !! which seems a little excessive.

Does anyone know how to remove the door card so that i can have a look at the motor and see if it looks ok.

Also, i had a look at the rear wiper and took off the cover that covers the washer jet. I think i need a new cover and there is a bit of plastic missing and now that i have unclogged the rear wiper it just sprays everywhere !! not on the wondow.

Does anyone know where i can get a new cover for the washer jet, i think its the cover to cover the fixing nut on the boot.

Thanks for your help.
