I think I have the same problem as you do.

When going at high speed on the motorway I get a high pitch note which appears to come from behind the built in Sat Nav. It only started after I had it serviced and the first time it happened it was pretty windy anyway. Does the sound kick in at a certain speed or does it gradually increase? At first I thought it was an electrical problem as the sound is so strange but wailing and high pitched is a pretty accurate description.

I was going to drop it into the dealer to investigate but am concerned that as it only kicks in around 85 they will not be willing to look at it. Can you report back on whether changing the motor fixes this?

Thanks

Try switching on the air recirculation. I find that this stops the wind noise coming into the car when on the motorway.

This is also a problem that i am having. It doesn't do it all the time. When it does it starts usually around 70mph, then doesn't go away unless i slow back down. It is the worst noise ever heard.
I have tried turning random things on and off - such as air recirculation, but to no affect. It has also been suggested that the windscreen pillar caps may be lose - one did come off but it is now siliconed back on so don't think it is this.

I am sure it is coming from the windscreen, but thats as much as i can tell.

If you guys figure it out, let me know.

Cheers

Chris xx

Hi fellow mini fans

I had this problem on both current mini and previous mini(both R53's 52 and 06 model). I found a fix by having the windscreen resealed.

If you have the same trouble as I did, the noise is at motorway speed. Try check this by getting a passenger to slightly press against the inside of the windscreen when the awful screaming starts. The noise will stop if you have the same problem as I did.

If this is the case the deal should reseal the screen under warranty.

hope this helps

Wind noise cure!

Hi there,
I took my 01 plate cooper to the dealer as it has a horrendous whisleing/wailing noise at high speeds (usually 70mph +). They have finally fpound that the windscreen needs resealing and so is going in for 2 days to have it out and resealed. Not cheap - but i cant wait to get rid of the noise.

To see if your car has the same problem, when it makes the noise get your passenger to push against the windscreen at the top near the rear view mirror. When my partner did this the noise went away or got better.

The other whistling noise that seems to be common with the mini cooper which goes when you turn the air recirc on is to do with the micro air filter at the front bottom of the car. Apparnetly it is a common fault that the bolts become loose. In tryiong to find the cure for the louder noise the dealer fixed this and now there is no whistle.

Also, on alot of older used mini's the A pillar trims are broken and this also can cause a whistleing noise. I also had this replaced at the dealers.

Now i look forward to being able to drive my mini as fast as i like (obviously obeying all speed limits) without any annoying or deafening noises!!
