DIY Front left wheel noise?

Hi everyone, dont suppose anyone has got an idea why my front left wheel groans when i pull off? Its like a rubbing groaning noise which stops as soon as you go faster than a crawl, or have been moving for a few seconds.Sounds like brake rubbing or something, but as soon as you move faster in stops. Seems to be worse when you first get in the car, seems to stop after a while of driving. Any ideas chaps (and girlies).
Dan

Umm had that that issue myself but it was the tyres, might sound daft have you checked your pressures on the tyres, sounds like it could be a stuck calliper any excessive brake dust on the alloy ?? best if you get it checked out just for piece of mind.

Try handbrake on, gear lever in neutral and jack up the front left. Than see if the wheel rotates freely.
  • If not it could be a sticky brake calliper not allowing pads to move back off the disc properly,
  • or a wheel bearing (though it would have to be fairly servere to make the noise you are describing and would normally be wosre at higher speed and with prolonged use),
  • or a CV joint (the flexible joint on the end of the drive shaft with a rubber gater around it)

The earlier suggestion regarding the tyres could be applicable if you have a tyre with very little pressure in (not as noticable with run flats)

In any case being next to the wheel and rotating it should help to localise the source of the sound if it really is coming from the front left wheel area.

Hope you get to the bottom of it (I always find mysterious noises frustrating)
