Question Gas gauge reads empty after tank is filled (all suggested special maneuvers were done

My gas gauge shows empty even after filling( using all suggested techniques following filling). The service rep at the Mini dealership says there are three possible units, therefore they must remove sender to see which of three it is. Is this true?? This means another 1.5hr. trip to the dealer when the part comes in. Also My MC"S" has a very loud engine belt squeal. The dealer also ordered a belt tensioner. Has anyone heard of this being common??

You've got to be a little crazey...otherwise, you'l go insane!!

I've had this "empty fuel guage" problem too; but only once. I ran the car nearly dry (down to the last 10 miles according to the trip computer's range) then filled it up. As soon as I switched on and tootled off, the guage was still reading empty, and it stayed that way for the rest of the journey. The next morning, it was absolutely fine.

Mentioned it to the dealer who said that perhaps the tank was so empty that the sender didn't get re-set properly when I filled it up again. Load of tosh, I reckon, but I haven't run the tank that dry since and haven't seen the problem again.

Oh, and it was raining when I filled it up that night.. maybe it's a moisture problem??
