Exclamation Warning gear linkage fix may not be fixed!

Driving down the A414 from St Albans on Saturday, approaching roundabout, changed down, NO GEARS! Fortunately I was in neutral and cruised to a stop by the side of the road. Called out MINI assistance who banged the linkage back on with a hammer and screwdriver (how painful was that to watch?).

Usual prevarication at the dealer (wouldn’t it be nice, just once, for them to say “Oh sorry to hear that Mr Jumpy, yes it is serious isn’t it, but don’t worry we'll sort it out right away or give you another car” huh! dream on mate), anyway, where was I, oh yes this is the good bit; Apparently the gear linkage WAS fixed by the dealer when the car was in for a different repair in July, but they didn’t tell me. Apparently the ‘clip’ used to fix it had just “FALLEN OF”! They have now fitted another clip, but, this is the bit I’m not sure about; Have they fitted the same type of clip, in which case could it just “fall of” again or have they fitted a different type of clip, in which case how many MINIs are running around with the wrong type of clip on?

(Sorry if this has been brought up before, I'm not very good at sorting through the threads)

When I had the gearbox linkage 'campaign' fix done recently, the parts list contained 3 clips, don't know which ones went where or anything but I found that interesting...

That's bad news jumpy, it doesn't do much for our confidence in the fix. Also, my gear shifting has been poor since the fix, especially when selecting reverse.
