DIY mini won't start... immobiliser maybe??

hi all,

I've come to start my mini tonight and everything powers up but it wont actually fire up... it started doing this about 2-3 weeks ago and I thought i was just turning the key a bit too quick... but this time i've tried about 15 times...

i've also tried locking and unlocking the car, getting out locking it and leaving it 10 mins then trying again... but... its given up.

could this be affected by the battery in the key fob? or is it an immobiliser fault?

I'm covered by mini breakdown but just wanted to check its not something silly first before calling them out.

It's a 55 plate cooper S....

any help much appreciated as usual...

my old mini woudn't start once, all the light on the dash lit up & the starter motor turned over, but it wouldn't fire. It was the fuel pump which had gone & the computer had shut down the engine to safe mode.

Mine did the same, wudnt sart i thought the worst, a new fuel pump, after lots of trial and error thanks to my mechanic, it turned out it was 5 relay located in the passenger footwell fuse department, it had shorted out, liquid had sumhow got in there. so try that before getting a new fuel pump. also u can ge tthe part but at main dealer ask for the BMW part or take the part in as the computers dont show up any mini parts of this kind as it is a BMW part. good luck!

I had a similar scenario with my 2004 MINI ONE, except that the problem was intermittent (would go away for a while after a bump start, etc...). The key thing about my problem though was that every time it refused to start, the starter motor simply wouldn't make any noise and didn't seem to be turning over the engine. The times it behaved, the starter motor sound was swiftly followed by the engine coming to life. In the end, it was diagnosed as a flat spot on the starter motor - once this was replaced, everything was working normally again.

So... listen out for starter motor noises. Good luck!

All the best,
