Drivers door

Hi there, thinking about buying a cooper s. The one ive got chance of has a problem though. The drivers door electric window will not operate (even the bit where the door is shut to close the gap) and the central locking on that door will not work. Can tell there is power to the door because of the clicking noises but it doesnt seem to want to operate. And as a result of the central locking not working the boot cannot be locked. So I cant really take a chance and bring it home if I cant lock the boot. Any thoughts on what the problem could be? Cheers

My 03 has been like that for years on the drivers door. I have got used to locking it with the key as I never got it fixed when it was in warranty like I should have. Sometimes my window works sometimes it plays up. Will get it fixed when the window annoys me more. I think the drivers door solenoid failure is common on minis though. I bet the dealer will say he has never heard of the problem though, as usual...!*

It is common for the window motor to go bad and become sporadic. Most folks just whack the door above the large speaker and it shakes into life for a while (a dirty commutator is the problem ). It is also common for the locking unit in the door to fail. You probably just have both at once, At least you will only have to open it up one time! Lucky guy! If you repair them yourself, you can do it for th eprice of parts, about $120 for the motor and a little more for the lock unit. The dealer price to fix these is more. If you take the motor apart, you can clean the commutator and it could run another 4 years or so.
