clicking when accelerating

When pressing (or releasing) the accelerator pedal there is a clicking noise. It doesnt sound like its coming from the pedal, more the front of the car.

Any ideas?

04 plate 46k miles. MCS

Thanks

Does it click when the car is moving & relative to the speed i.e. slow moving - slow clicking, fast moving - faster clicking?

If so, could be something catching on the tyres.

any speed. Push the pedal, it makes this noise.

Its just 1 click noise, so cant be variable when you are going faster.

I'll try some things tonight. Stopped out of gear pressing it, going along slow, fast etc.

Might narrow it down

sounds like top engine mount on drivers side of engine, a common problem.

take a look and see if there is oil arround the sphere, also try rocking the engine back and forward to see if there is movement.

In Italy

I had this on my old Cooper - it turned out to be the driveshaft causing the clicking noise. A new driveshaft was fitted under warranty and the problem never returned.

As Snowie said above though, this can also be a symptom of a failed engine mount.

went to get some oil today and drove like a learner all the way there trying to locate the noise.

It does sound like its the rear of the car. Its usually when there is a sharpen movement, brake or go pedal. But also happens over big bumps.

There is also a little noise when its idling, which is coming from the drivers side of the engine. So I think it'll book it in and get them to take a look. Its in warranty.

Do they charge for "diagnostic" or "insurance"?

It's easily located with a sharp hearing friend

With the driveshaft, the slightest engage of the clutch to pull away, and then throttle lift off would give the tick.... so in stop start traffic it would go constantly on pull away and on lift off. U demonstrated this to the dealer in their own car park, and the service chap instantly diagosed the fault as the driveshaft (there is one on either side of the front end), and it was booked in, replaced and fixed.

I've not known a similar sound to come from the rear....

With the aid of a friend, you might be able to better detirmine front or rear, and then which side. Yes, BMW do charge for diagnosis, but if you have already narrowed this down, it will help

It definatly did that exact clicking noise like what you describe.

But I havnt been able to hear it for a good few weeks now.

Seeing as it has stopped for now should I not worry about it anymore?

Chucked in a litre of oil last night, as it was low. So will test tonight when its home for the idling noise.

Went for an other drive to see what i can see.

I can make the noise Tick, tock, tick tock (if that makes sense!) by jolting the car.

I think its the back, girlfriend thinks its the front. Tried rocking the engine and no movement.

I have a similar problem. When putting my foot right down i can hear a knocking/tapping noise from the front and the noise and speed of the taps increase the quicker i go :S.

Iv been told it could be the supercharger bearings?? Theyre a common fault?

Sorry for the lack of knowledge im new to the mini world .

Cheers.
