DIY Seat Stuck in Reclin. Help please!!!!

Right, last night my friend felt he was getting tired. So he pressed the leaver backwards and the seat went back like normal. Then when coming to put it back to normal, it was stuck. The leaver moves backwards but the seat it stuck. It still slides forwards when needing to let some one in the back. It just stays reclined.

Have tried wiggling it and all that malarkey but no use.

Really hope someone knows what this is and even better how to fix it.

Thanks
Ross

This was a common problem on early MINI's, many were fixed under warranty but sometimes a bit of brute force often does the trick. There are various methods if you do a search on here, one is in the Link below

I've never been to Reclin, but i've heard it's a really grim place and I'd not like to be stuck there

I had the samme prob, a 2003 MCS, put a bookshelf from IKEA on it. Tried all the remedies only to find out that I had bent the frame. Needed a new one as the mechanism was well and truely busted. Quoted $900AUD just for the frame.......argh. Anyhow got hold of some seats from a 2007 S that were being changed for racing ones, got the trims swapped and changed the drivers frame too....it was getting a bit dodgy, so two almost new frames, my full leather, $1000 all up fitted! Bargin!

I think from memory of what I've read on here, is that there is a cable that makes the seat come forward when you press the button.

I think the common fault is the cable comes disconnected, and Mini say they can't (or can't be bothered) to reconnect it.

So the fix is to have a new cable installed, and I dont think it's cheap

Many people have had this repaired under warrenty though.

EDIT

I've found the thread here:
