whining noise when driving

hi all,

not exactly sure if this is a fault or if my MINIs getting to that age....i own a MINI Cooper (non S) 2005 plate .....only19k miles.
recently i noticed asort of supercharger type whine when driving.......never noticed it before..

..i do know that the last MINI i had 1gen pre facelift used to whine...particularly when 3point turning....

..is this something to inform MINI about???

you shouldn't really hear it when going in a straight line but it will whine as soon as you move away from centre. Try it while stationary.... If it's the power steering, it should change pitch as you move the wheel. If this is a seperate whine then i'm not sure what it could be
