Id be concerned that you even managed that! Is shorting the outputs enough to blow the tracks? I would have thought another component would have gone before then.

Hasn't shorted - some of the wiring was damaged. So We've bridged the broken tracks and just about to test it now! Will post some picks of the heart bypass (bridged tracks) later!

Thanks Chris!

Here is a pic of the wiring that fixed the ECU! It's working fine, but I'll have to replace it for the sake of reliability. Should last long till I can fit a new one. Apart from that everything is working fine and have now been able to drive back to Cardiff at last!

So pleased and relieved that it's sorted!

Just a quick update - my MCS has been running fine for just over 10 days now I've been telling my friends that she was in hibernation over the winter

Still looking for a second hand ECU from the breakers but yet to find one (need one off a 02 -June04 MCS). Will definately need to get one, just for the sake of future reliability. Can't afford new one, so happy with one from the breakers. If anyone notices one on ebay or somewhere please let me know.

Plan to flash that with JCW software in prep for a 15% reduced pulley come spring

Thanks for all the interest and comments on this thread

Regarding the JCW flash.
I run a 15% pulley with MTH flash and have been recommended to go back to a stock MCS flash due to overfuelling.
Something to consider.......
Nice repair btw, takes guts to take a soldering iron to a £675 ECU!

Thanks guys.

Matt - keep me posted if you see anything! Chris - thanks for the info! Definitely take that into account, if I don't get the JCW flash I'll save a bit of money anyhow!

Dave - maybe I should have hired that camera - wouldn't have needed to take the cylinder head off then!!
