| Boot not unlocking Hi all, I have had a quick search for this problem but couldn't find anything. We have a late 2004 MCS. We cannot open the boot at the moment by using the keyfob or the toggle switch. The only way we can open the boot is drive the car above 10mph (so the locks all close) and then stop the car. At this stage the boot pops open - which it never did before??? I can't live with this over xmas - any quick fixes? Many thanks Mike |

| been raining lots lately?? You can pull the boot release cable under the rear seat bench |

| Quick update The problem has now gone intermittent - although seems to be linked to water ingress. (The last two times this has happened was once after a jet wash and once after a heavy rainfall.) Gutted because I probably wont be able to recreeate the problem at the dealers now. To open the boot, switching the headlights on and off with the ignition off opens it? Weird!! Thanks for the note about remote boot release under the rear passenger seat - did not know that! Mike |

| Boot not opening from locked position I also have a '04 MINI Cooper S and I just experienced this problem. It is rather ironic we all are having this problem at the same time! I plan to get the Boot Actuator Mechanism and hopefully this solves the problem. Everything else locks and unlocks and I have no weird electrical problems as others have posted. |

| Ah I seem to have the same issue as from tonight. I've only had the Mini Cooper ('54) for a month and the windows opened twice in the space of 20 minutes for no reason whilst left parked in my street. As I bought it off my bro-in-law he told me this happened to them when the car was fairly new. Now that seems to be resolved. After emptying the boot from shopping I closed the boot and now can't open it as it's locked. The strange thing is that the boot catch did make a loud sound when I stopped the engine. I'll try out a few of the ideas but I also saw this don't know if it might help although it is kind of the reverse problem it might help - (web .northamericanmotoring.com/forums/coupe-talk-2002-2006/7349-help-my-boot-wont-latch html) i may just wait until I need to drive it tomorrow and see what happens. Will let you know if I find out anything more. Leon. |

| I tried again at lunchtime and the boot nows open without a problem. Must have warmed up (considering it has been dropping below 0c) and dried out !!?? As Mike 9009 said 'At this stage the boot pops open - which it never did before' the boot popped open when I finally stopped earlier. This was after I could hear the boot lock cycling on and off. Has anyone had any luck fixing this one? Last edited by hoggbottom59; Jan 6th, 2009 at 06:09 PM. Reason: Addition to the text |

Boot Not Unlocking HI i had the same problem with my mcs this looks like a common problem with minis . water gets in to the boot lock or switch and corrodes the wires and other parts . mine was still under warranty so got it fixed by the dealer. not very good on a 3 year old bmw mini. the dealer said they had not seen this before but fixed the problem with in an hour . |

Sorry if this is too late for you, but I've only just joined. Saw this same problem on the R55-R56 forum and replied there. We've got a 54 facelift cooper with exactly the same problem. Never seems to affect any other doors. Had the boot latch replaced, with no effect. Luckily the mechanic had a good look round, and noticed water in the rear number plate lamp. Once that was dried out and sealed there has never been a problem since. So as one of your other replies mentioned, it looks like it is water ingress. |
