overheating mc ..

my brg mini cooper over heated yesturday on the way to work....noticed the tank was empty so i filled with water and bled the valve for air..called the aa out just to check it all over and he said i have a leaky radiator..it must be just dripping tho because i can get from manchester to stockport and back 40miles away ...and there is still some water in the tank just wondering if its worth getting a new radiator or just putting some radweld in for now till i get the money for the new rad...just wondering tho where do i put the radweld? ive been told i cant put it in the filler tank as it wont work properly...(by an AA man) .if i did get a new radiator is there any aftermarket ones floating about for a mini cooper?

cheers
chris

You can pick up cheaper new aftermarket MINI radiators on Ebay but there are different types depending on whether Air Con is fitted or not, also probably from Euro Car Parts.
Try to avoid using Radweld if you can...........if you must, you can add it at the coolant filler neck cap RH side near the air filter intake hose, (in front of battery box), rather than at the expansion tank.
Note: Wait for engine to cool and relieve pressure carefully!

Also check the therostat housing as this is a common Mini leak point. Search on here for loads of info on that problem.

Think it has fixed it..but now once every month the filler tank lid pop off and the coolant will over flow for some reason (think its an airblock) other than that its been fine..how hot should the radiator be to the touch?

cheers
