Central Locking Fault

Hi,

I own a 53 plate Cooper.

I seem to have a problem with the central locking.

The door seems to only unlock if you use the inside handle, if you try and open it with the key fob or the inside switch it just stays locked.

The strange thing is that it will lock fine with the key fob, with the switch and if I go over 10 miles per hour.

Does any one have any idea?

Thanks in advance

Kirt

I had a similar problem with one of my keys. In my case, we bought the '03 second-hand, and one key seemed fine, but on the other (mine, of course, not my wife's), the 'lock' switch worked, but the unlock did not.

I pried open the fob per the instructions (in the manual, where describing the battery-change procedure) and to my surprise, out fell the little microswitch for the unlock button. It's surfaced-soldered to the circuit board and managed to part company.

On the circuit board, there's a little LED that apparently shows when either button is pressed and the transmitter activates. I held the microswitch in place and pressed it, and the light came on. As I don't have a tiny little soldering iron, I simply taped the switch in place and reassembled the fob. It's still working fine, which has saved me a $170 trip to the Mini dealer.

Try opening up your key fob and checking the two microswitches and LED. Yours may have bumped out of line as well. The circuit board is held into the 'top' half of the key by a couple of plastic clips - just ease the clips aside and the circuit board should drop out.
