URGENT HELP NEEDED!!

has anyone fitted a tow bar to their Mini? I have a pre 11/06 Mini One which i have fitted a tow bar to.
I am having trouble with the electrics i have installed.
I have wired in a SMART Can bus 7 way bypass relay unit (from Brocott) which seems to click at the right times, ie when the indicators are flashing but i have no trailer lights working. When i put the sidelights on i am getting 14 volts on all the terminals, with the connector in, and nothing with the connector out.
Do I even need this box and can i just piggy back the socket from my rear lights so the trailer lights just run off the cars lights or is this box necessary?

Also I have connected the negative to the box from the -ve battery terminal. Should it go to the chassis instead?

any help on this would be appreciated!

you do need the box, I connected to the body (negative), battery as a direct positive, then off the back of the lights.

Where have you connected your positive? this needs to be a connection prior to your ecu or you will not get any power through
