My MINI of similar age, almost 6 months and over 9000kms also has trouble getting into reverse sometimes. The first thing I do which seems to help is to snap it into reverse -- going slowly seems to get caught up. If I can feel that it didn't go all the way in, I put the stick into neutral, drop the clutch out, rev the engine a bit, put the clutch back in and it goes into reverse fine after that.
A previous car had a similar problem which was solved by putting it into first and rolling forward a bit but this doesn't seem to work as well in the MINI. The neutral rev seems to do it.
For the record, my car has had the gearbox linkage fix. It was acting up before the fix, felt fine right after it but then started acting up a few weeks later. It is usually fine but once in a while it gets caught there. Lack of synchros and the 5th->reverse lockout probably.
