Steering wheel vibration.

Desparately seeking a solution.

I have had a high frequency steering vibration since day one on my Cooper with 16inch wheels. At 60-70mph it vibrates to the point where my hands are numb after 30 or so min.

Been to the dealer 5 times. They have been bending over backwards, but can not fix the problem. They put a new set of wheels and tires, balanced to zero. No luck. I do not think it's in the drive-train, as the vibration exists in neutral at speed. Mini's tech rep for my region seems pretty unresponsive.

Love my ride, but Im losing steam. Any advise I can give to the dealer would be helpful.

Much Thanks.

Question

Have they checked out or replaced the steering rack and/or bushings?

It has not been checked. The dealer will not do anything else until a mini tech rep drives the car.

The problem intensifies in the rain and on humid days....which the dealer said might be the bushings.

Haven't they taken the car from you??

I'd agree with the first part of your last post. What I don't agree with is the apparent fact that they haven't taken the car off of you.
'The dealer said it might be the bushings'. Let's give that dealer a round of applause shall we? - no, I think not either.

If I were your dealer Scotland, I'd have had that car off of you immediatly, with all the apologies, loaner and compensation etc, while I sorted it out properly.

How they can let you drive it when they don't know the cause of the problem is beyond me.

A pen and paper could pay dividends you know!!
