Is this normal engine temperature on my r53 mcs???pls help

I just bought a 2nd hand 2005 mcs with a mileage of 38500kms. The thing is recently ive noticed that the temperature gauge says the engine temp is about 90 degrees but the owners manual says the normal running temp should be around the half way mark which is abt 60 degrees. I am very worried as this is my first mini.. Pls help me out cheers..

Where does the needle sit on the the tempreture gauge? if it sits half way and does not move then that is fine.

90 degree Celsius is 194 degree Fahrenheit, which is normal operating water temp.

hey thanks alot. I was just worried because the owners manual said the temperature gauge reading should be at the half way mark which is around 60 degrees. i got 90 degree celsius. So does that mean the owners manual is kinda inaccurate??

I think it sounds like the gauge is in accurate. Like MINIAC said I think 90 C is normal and this is the temperature that the gauge should sit in the middle. Check you have enough coolant in the system to be sure that it is not running hot because of this.

A chrono package will sit at about the 3/4 make which is realy 90dec C and a standard gauge will sit smack bang on half way.

Just to say that my '05 MCS with chrono pack sits on 90degrees too. The needle sits vertical (3/4) when up to temperature.

Thanks from me as well, I was also wondering about this. It's something I noticed on the test drive. I like the extra info you get from the chrono pack but I kind of miss the massive speedometer.

Water temperature for mini cooper

Thank you guys for the information. I was wondering why was my temperature gauge closer to 200 F or 90 C degrees. The gauge was pointing straight up (vertically upwards.) I was concerned because that was almost 3/4 of the way. I had the impression that the engine was overheating. Reading from the previous posts, I am now calm because it is just the chrono dial version that has the normal operating temperature at 3/4. I suppose that 90 C is a good water temperature as stated previously from others.

Water temperature for mini cooper

Hi all

Can I just to make 100% sure that the coolant temperature on the Chorno pack gauge is 90-95 degree C (3/4 of the way up?) I have recently bought this car and am worry the temperature is too high....may I have a photo showing the correct position when the engine is warmed up? I can not find any on the web, I shall take one myself when I get back, am travelling for work at the moment.)
Mine is a Cooper S. Thanks in advance...
