Gearbox noise on 55 plate cooper. PLEASE HELP!

Hi Guys
I've just picked up a 55 plate cooper with 40,000 miles on it,and am concerned about a noise I have coming from the gearbox.
the box is a 5 speed, and on idle with the clutch down there is no noise present.however , when the clutch is raised there is quite a whine.Also if you lift the clutch up quickly(idle/neutral) there is a sharp knocking sound.
Is this common on a facelift cooper?
BTW,it has a 12 month warranty, so hopefully I should be ok one way or another.

The whining sound is the thrust release bearing, they all make that noise, quite normal (all three of my minis make that sound). The knocking sound is possibly because it is a short wheel base and it will rock back and forth etc if you pull the clutch out too quickly, all to do with power to weight. My wife does it all the time.

I am sure if I am wrong someone will be along to give a more accurate diagnosis, but to be honest I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Yes I ge that knock when pulling off or in rev. I dont think its meant to do that but the car has been into mini for a service and they didnt say anything about it. Oh yes its when you left the clutch up to quick.....

Jusy seen a mate of mine who is a bit of a gear box man in the A1gp race series, and he says it doesn't sound too bad!! thinks its probably just the oil spinning the gears on the lay shaft

As I said before, all three of my minis whine, and so it's either a common thing, or I have three expensive problems.
