Windscreen Stone Chip

Today I was stuck in traffic, and decided to take a shortcut down some country roads, and got my first proper stone chip on the windscreen. Which is really annoying!!

Should I get it filled in? If so should I use a DIY kit from halfords or use a specialist company?

OR should I get my windscreen replaced, if so can this be done by a dealership or do I have to go to autoglass? I presume I can claim for this on insurance as im fully comp?!

Thanks

How bad is the chip and is it in your line of sight?

You don't want to chance it spreading so get it fixed.

I had one fixed shortly after getting my MINI and it wasn't that expensive. They came right to my house.

I have got several around my drivers side & a couple on the other so i have gone through my insurance & getting mine replaced 2day all being well - weather permitting!!

I would get it done through your insurance as they can cone out to wherever you want & dont charge you for repairing & if its under 3 chips - if it looks like its going to crack or craking then you will need to have replaced which will cost you your excess.

I personally wouldn't try myself but thats up to you.

Good luck

Had a chip and left it for ages as my insurance at the time wouldn't repair chips!!

So made sure when my year was up I changed companies the new one covered it and got it done by autoglass I think. You can still see it, not as bad as before, but has it's strength back apparently!

My local Halfords often has a guy there doing it too. He'll do it for free if you covered, but if not think it was about £30.

Got a chip in my screen repaired free of charge in Homebase car-park (can't remember the company but they were there everyweekend for months). Would only do cars covered by certain Insurers, & luckily my insurer was on their list.

Seen various other companies doing this in around town so might be worth looking out in your area for this kind of thing?
