Mini One D - Cylinder problem-no acceleration

Hi there,

Got a little problem with my Mini One D. It's having it's diagnostic's done right now, but was hoping someone could tell me what kind of cost I'm looking at and also if it has anything to do with my head gasket not being fixed properly?

Basically this morning, I was driving to work and my car lost almost all its acceleration. I couldn't go above 45mph. It took 5 seconds to go from 35 to 36mph and 14 seconds to go from 36 to 37mph.

When I switched it off and back on, it took about 20 seconds to start/get going.

So I called the AA and the guy looked at my engine. He was there was something wrong with one of my cylinders. I can't remember the phrase he used, but he said *something* fire. (I can't remember what the something was. I asked him to explain, and he said somewhere along the line the fuel injector might not be working prop. But the cylinder seemed to be the prob.

Can anyone advise how much this might cost to fix? i'm so skint!

Also, a little background info, my head gasket went about 4 weeks ago. Had it repaired at a local garage, not bmw. When i got my car back, i did think it was a little slower, but i thought this was due to me having a mazada 3 sport for nearly a week and driving a fast peugot also! I thought it was just because i was used to the fast petrols.

so im suspecting the problem stems from this. maybe something not being screwed on prop.

Any help guys? Would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Reena

the fact that the head gasket was renewed so recently would point to something to do with this work.

are you losing coolant/oil ? what were your original symptoms before you got the head gasket done ?

your cylinder head may be warped depending on the original scenario ?

does the work have some warranty so that you can return it ?

it may not be the head gasket again............could be a fuel injector, etc

let us know what the diagnostics throw up.

hi,

thanks for your reply.

originally with the head gasket some how pressure, was getting into the coolat system. i saw it myself when the AA guy lifted the bonnet, the cooliant was bubbling over manically as soon as the engine was started.

diagnostics came up with the DDE unit being faulty and having to be replaced. they said there were lots of "electrical failures".

i also thought immediately that it had something to do with the other garage, but there was no way i could prove this. i got mini garage to come up with some scenrios. they said, it could have been cos the car battery wasnt wired properly, or maybe not even jumped startd properly. but they said they wouldn't have touched the DDE unit.

i think they are messing me around abit, (this is Vines BMW Gatwick btw), as a couple of hours ago, he said, "we've replaced the DDE unit, but now there's a funny sound coming from the engine." there's a problem with the cylinder, which the AA breakdown guy spotted straigtaway, but has taken BMW 3 working days to confirm this.

Apparently, 14 hour labour alone is £1500.

I really cant afford this.

When I said to him, why didn't you confirm this before, when the AA did it in 5 seconds, he said "well actually, perhaps there may not be a problem. why dont I get our senior services manager to give it a second look?"

I'm really worried im being taken for a ride.

Do I have any options? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Reena.

- Sorry, forgot to answer your other questions - the head gasket work is under guarantee and the AA guy said that the fuel injector wasn't getting into the diesel. hence the lack of power. BMW are yet to support this statement.

Same here have a mini one convertiable 2005 only done 33000 miles, had it diag said no 1 cylinder no compression, then took it to sytner who said £600.00 just to look !!!! then a report could be done to see if mini would contribute, i cant take that chance as i cant afford and now stuck with a car that doesnt work.MINI CHARGE £95 PER HOUR if new engine £5000.00!!!
