Ignition Barrel - Removal - No KEY

I fear i already know the answer to this but is it possible to get the ignition barrel out of the steering column without the key?

I have bought a second hand steering column , as I have the dreaded clunk. But they didnt take the barrel out as I asked and say they are not sure if they have the key!!! and dont have the chassis no either... I can return it but it is almost new and a new one from bmw is £186 and i only paid £35 for this one and it has the button for the on board comp attached which i intend to wire up.!!
any ideas
Ta in advance

Just replacing my column now, got the key and still struggling to get the barrel out! Anyone know the secret, I guess you turn key and use a pin, just worried about snapping key!
