all the sites i've read that mention this seem to say it is $140 for a new motor - but if you get it replaced at a dealers then it is $400. No one seems to mention any prices in the UK. does anyone know of any non-dealer places that'll replace the window motor and how much it'd cost?

- i guess you are refering to this thread?
http://www.mini2.com/forum/faults-fi...ing-guide.html

i'm very seriously considering it - but also, if i stuff up the motor while trying to clean the brushes then i'm going to need to get it replaced

(Also, central locking motor in the same door has gone, so was thinking it might be easier to get someone who knows what they're doing to fix both at the same time)

we shall see - if it's not raining tomorrow, i'm probably gonna give it a go and see what happens

thanks so much for that
it explains in more detail than the other threads and also contains photos that look to be really useful too

if there's no rain tomorrow i'm gonna try it

(although, i'm wanna give the door thump another try - having read that it's now known as the "Fonzi" method i realise i was doing it all wrong - you need the "aaayyyy!!" right after you hit it, obviously )

Also I recall having this probel on my Gen 1 & it was simply the glass coming off its clips. No motor needed at all!
