Power Steering Fan Question

Hi

Just got the car back from the Inspection 2 service on my wifes MCS and got a list of other faults they have found. We've owned the car 3 days or so so was a little upset.

A couple of oil leaks and a leaking power steering pump. Total of over £900 if we want it doing!

I've read as much as i can of the HUGE thread on power steering and we'll be going back on monday to see what BMW will pay towards it.

I thought i'd have a look at it today to see how bad the leak was and couldn't really find one to be honest. It was a little grubby but i've cleaned it up and will monitor it so hopefully will find a leak.

My question is however when does the power steering pump cut in. I took it off to look at the pump but noticed it wasn't working. I cant seem to find an answer if it should be in all the time or just at certain temperaturesd.

Can anyone helpo please???

Thanks

Paul

Sorry the last paragraph should be the power steering fan not the pump. The fan wasnt spinning when I started the car and wondered if it comes in after a set period of time or temperature.

Thanks again

it could be something as simple as a loose wire or something complicated like the pump.
