Air con light flashing

I've just recently bought a 2002 (52) Mini Cooper from a private seller, and when I press the air con button the green light comes on then starts to flash and the air con doesn't get cold

Any ideas how to fix this or how much it'll cost me to fix this?

Cheers for the comment, what happens is I have the far left dial on blue and the middle dial on 2 or 3 and the position pointing towards me e.g. ->

When I press the air con button the green light comes on then after about 1 second or so, it starts to flash and the temperature does not get cold.

Needs a re-gas by the sounds of it. Not too expensive

When you start the car does your car go through a program check. ie do all the lights and that light up and then go out?

In response to PK5 it's a case of when I press the air con button it goes green then begins to flash.

When I start the car, I've not noticed anything apart from on the odometer it says service due in xxxxxx miles.

Does anyone know where I can get it re-gassed, at a reasonable cost? (If that is the problem/cure)

I had this problem on my 56 Mini One D. Turned out there was a broken wire behind the bumper (which powers the air con). Fortunately this was repaired for me because the dealer had broken it in the first place.

Might be worth a check that nothing's been removed from the front of the car? Failing that a gas replacement is probably what you need. Mini charge around £100 for it. When mine was repaired the dealer was happy to refund my £100 if the recharge didn't fix the problem - it's hard to prove if the gas needs replacing without actually replacing it!

normally around £35.00 to regass, look in local paper or ask local garage
