1.6 Mini Cooper Girlie needs help with rev counter digital display fault

I'm not blonde and I'm not as dumb as my dealer who has just charged me £60 for not fixing a fault with my digital rev counter / display cluster over the steering wheel.

It is intermittent - the whole display 'disappears' and rev counter then drops to zero - but it wasn't working when it went in but they still say they can't find the problem.

They say they have not had the problem before - has anyone else? This is a complete loss of display not the dimming that they have seen before.

Any help or information would be appreciated. I've looked through the previous posts but can't find anything. Mine's a 2005 Cooper Convertible
