DIY Increased road noise?

My 02 mini cooper is making alot of road noise, especially at speed (anything over 65mph) its not the quietest car anyway but on the motorway it is excessively loud.

Does anyone have any idea as to the cause of this?

Thanks J

If you ahve run flats that will do it. Even my regular tires are noisy but the runflats were much worse.

No runflats, is there any chance it could be a wheel bearing?

Thanks

Wheel bearings would be the first thing to check, followed by tyres that may be worn unevenly (feathered on edges)

do you know how to check wheel bearings? if not all you do is go around each wheel to check if there is any excessive wear by pulling and pushing the wheel

Sorry pk5, but to check a wheel bearing for noise, you need to spin the wheel by hand, and either listen for excessive noise, or even better feel for roughness through the coil spring. A noisy bearing may not always have excessive play

Easiest way to do it is drive it and listen for changes in noise when you turn into circles. A trained mechanic can do this easily.

I think I have this issure, but with the front left wheel. Did you take your car back to a dealers ? What was the damage ££££££

I'm wondering if I may be able to make a warranty claim as I have only done 30,000 miles and have a 2008 clubman, so am still in warranty.

hmmmmmmm............maybe worth a try.

Yes, it should be under warranty. Take it in and have it fixed.
