ok. check that the fuse hasnt gone

also try opening the bonnet and put your wipers on if you can hear the motor spining its probably the wiper arms have come off the sprocket. dont panic i think its a ball and socket job but could be a garage bill for you

I had this problem with a vectra i had and they replaced it under warranty.

You could have a go yourself but you will have to remove the plastic trim below the windscreen

Hopefully its just the fuse which will probably cost you about 50p to replace

let us know how you get on

DIY wiper problem fixed?

I have an intermittant wiper problem that may require the motor (and stop switch) to be replaced. Did you have to replace your's and if so how much did it cost. Did you find any technical information about doing the job yourself?

Have just been looking for the answer to the same problem - think the cost is going to be £300-400 according to my local garage but there are two other routes 1) could be a simple earthing problem between the wiper motor and the chassis and 2) there is an excellent pictorial guide from miniliz2 posted on dec 29th 2008 on how to replace the motor yourself

hi mine kept seizing up. ive had it repaired by garage but now ive done it myself.
to remove motor you dont need to dismantle too much like the garages. ive found quick way. remove plastic trim near the drivers side wiper arm so you see the bolts which hold the motor to armeture. remove the three 10mm bolts and 13mm nut attaching linkages. remember their position. then remove water xpansion bottle power sterring bottle from bracket and then remove this bracket from the bulkhead. then prize the plastic covering forward and you should be able to pull out the motor and remove the connector. now open motor cover and clean all contacts. should fix it.

hi just to confirm that it is an earthing problem with the motor. ive done a permanent repair on mine by soldering a wire from the small contact inside the motor to the motor body and this seems to have cured the problem. cleaning the contacts is only temp cos it will burn out again in frozen weather.thanks

Worth checking the earth lead to the motor. mine stopped mid swipe. AA came out and took a look thinking I'd need a new motor but it was the earth wire that had become loose and needed to be repositioned so that it was making contact to the body of the car. common problem as its hard to find a spot to earth it with all the painted surfaces the engine compartment has. Anyway worth a shot as its quick to fix.

Australia Thanks!!

After having my mini at the local mechanics for 2 weeks they were stumped on how to fix my broken wipers. All the mini 'Experts' we called here had never heard of the problem before (!). As a last resort I was about to drive my car 600kms (dodging showers) to the nearest BMW dealer to try and get them fixed. Thank goodness my husband checked this forum first and managed to fix the problem in 20 mins - saving $100's. Thanks again!

I am having rear wiper issues. Any ideas where to get a new motor (NOT the dealer)? Thanks.
