Lights go dim when i move my steering wheel :(

happy new years before i start :P!

i have noticed recently that when my car is in the parked position, and the front lights on, if i turn my steering slightly, the front lights will go dim for a second. Even when i was driving on the motorway i noticed the front lights going dim when i swithed lanes.

ne1 know whats going on? ne help appreciated

The power steering is electrically powered, so presume there is some sort of short circuit (that needs expert attention?)

spoke to a mechanic he said it cud be:

1) the battery
2) the alternator
3) the power steering pump (taking too much power or summin)

Another possibility could be a poor contact on the lighting stalk on the steering column. If you move the steering wheel perhaps you affect an electrical contact in the stalk.

I would want to rule it out. Perhaps by moving the steering wheel and lighting stalk with lights on but not the power steering on.

It seems unlikely but easy enough to rule out.

i suspect a bad power steering pump motor

DO NOT DRIVE WITH THE POWER STEERING DISABLED!

to check, pull the power steering fuse/relay, start the car, turn on the lights and turn the wheel while watching for the lights to dim

The power steering draws a lot of power under load, your battery may be failing with age to keep up, how old is it?
