Newbie needs help!

Whilst driving my cooper s Cabrio today 55 pate i stopped to give way at a roundabout and coudnt get out of neutral into 1st gear, eventualy i managed it however now from neutral to 1st or second the gear stick is so stiff i can hardly get in gear and its just as hard to come out of gear.On the way home i was on the motor way and comming fro 6th to 5th to 4th to 3rd was fine but then 2nd and 1st almost impossible any ideas? car been fine up until now.Cheers

Got my cooper s back turned out it was the cables from the gear leaver to the gear box. Cost of parts from Main dealer £95 total cost with labour £229 + vat However told had to remove exhaust to do job wich was siezed on got charged £5 for parts and £345 labour total bill of £733 boy was i sick and also a list of other problems with the car as well! How can a car thats only 5 years old thats only done 43000 have so many things wrong? power steering fan siezed/ cam cover gasket leaking/ front lower arm bushes

i know just how u feel, i have had my cooper for 6 days now and have just found out that i need 3,000 worth of work done to make her better, not a happy bunny. but david paul said they would charge me 1,000, bit of a difference to hj in warrington, go and see him, it takes the pain away and they are bmw specialist, so they know there stuff...goood luck
