MINI convertible not retrackting

I have a 2005 MINI convertible that I bought from an individual, I have had it about a year and everything has been working fine it actually only had 15K miles on it so it's like a new car However... over the weekend the convertible top has stopped working on one side. When I press the button to take it down the drivers side does not move, I can force it back but then it doesn't unlatch from the car to go down the rest of the way. I have tried to manually take it down and it still does the same thing and I have also checked all the fuses which look fine. I realize this is probably a wore out motor or a busted cable from a few google search and MINI forums I've found but my question is what is the cost? I am assuming that it's no longer under warranty and I have little money to spend so I am trying to prepare myself
