United-Kingdom Passenger door wont open in or out.

Hi this is my first time but I need help.
My 2004 cooper door locks stopped working. They lock but don't unlock with the key but do unlock from the inside with the handle. (at least they did). So I took the door panel off had a play about, decided I couldnt fix it so put it back together again and shut the door. I think the bowden cable has come off as well as the c/locking issue now. So, now the door is shut and locked and won't open from either side. How am I going to get myself out of that I ask you. How can I get the panel off with the door shut?

Thanks.

What happens if you use the unlock switch on the dash? I didn't even realise my car had this switch until recently!!!!

If that doesn't work...

I've not done this myself but....if you can get the passenger seat out then you 'should' be able to unscrew the panel again, prise it off from the bottom left corner and squeeze your arm in, locate the cable that's presumably come off and give it a tug. If it's come off at the inner handle end then this should unlock the door. If the cable is off at the rotary latch end then I don't know what you're going to do as it's incredibly fiddly to reattach it, and without the door panel being completely off, I'd say impossible!

If you do manage to unlock the door, then this post here might help you to fix the locking problem (if it's the rotary latch module at fault):

Good luck - report back!

Thanks. What switch?

Thanks for that. What switch on the dash? If you can tell me where that is, I'll give it a go if not then its the seat out option although I'm 99.9% certain the cable has come off the rotary latch end. Thanks for the link.

Cheers.

The row of switches under the climate control. The row that has the window switches, fog lights etc - look for one with a padlock symbol - that's the lock switch! I'm 'really' hoping that unlocks it as it will save you a massive load of headache!
