Door handles not working

I locked my keys in my mini and had to call a locksmith to open the door. He had to put a wire in the window and opened the door using the inside door handle.

But now my door locks are acting funny. I can lock/unlock with the key fob. I see the lock go up and down. When I grab the outside handle it feels loose (its not hard to squeeze like usual) and the door will not open. From the inside, I can open the door just fine.

Is there a way to reset the power locks after having a locksmith break into my mini? Do I have to take it into the dealer? I really hate my dealer's service department and want to avoid them if possible.

Right now the only way I can get into my mini is to unlock the boot and crawl in. And if you are wondering how I locked my keys in the mini; I got out of the mini, locked the doors, opened the boot, set the keys down inside and then shut the boot.

Is it just your drivers door that won't open with the external handle?

If so then it sounds like the cable that runs from the external door handle to the latch module has come off. Did the locksmith insert the wire down into the door and then use it to pull the cable from within the door (rather than running the wire through the top of the window and into the car)? The internal door handle uses a seperate cable, hence it still works.

If this is the problem, you will need to remove the inner door panel and re-attach the cable. Quite a simple task. Instructions here for removing the door panel and has an image of where the cable attaches (labeled 3 in the image): http://www.mini2.com/forum/first-gen...ml#post3754435

Neither door will open and both feel loose when you squeeze them.

The locksmith put a little air bag in the window and blew it up enough to get a wire in. Then he hooked the wire on to the interior door handle and open it.
