Gearbox problem - Please help! :-(

I picked up my first ever Mini yesterday and not even had it a day when the gearbox packed up today!!!!

I have got a 3 month engine and gearbox warranty so will be taking it straight back to the dealer tomorrow morning but I need some advice as to what the problem could be... I'm gutted as I absolutely love the car but it seems I've hit some bad luck.

The problem is I can't select reverse, first or second gear and the gear stick is leaning to the left in neutral and is all loose???

It's a 2003 Mini Cooper S

Thanks for your help!!!!

Cooper S has a very strong Getrag gearbox, symptons sound like just the selector cables need some adjustment or have come adrift and not usually a big job to fix.

well that sounds promising, i did think that it could be linkage or something as there didn't seem to be anything wrong with it until it just suddenly went.

the dealer actually rang me tonight and is going to get it looked at tomorrow so fingers crossed it'll be sorted relatively easily.

thanks for advice!
