White Cooper Paint exhaust back box?

Hello, Just looking at my back box on my 04 cooper and it's very rusty and not very nice looking I was wondering if anyone knew if it would be O.K to attack it with a wire brush and some hammerite paint? maybe brighten it up a bit. If this is not a good idea, does anyone know how much it would be for a new back box/exhaust

Thank you.

I know a few MINI dealers that will paint the back box silver when the cars go on cherished

I got a pattern part exhaust for my first gen one for £80, did the job and sounded pretty sweet too

I have a similar issue with my Mini (2006)

Any confirmation on the costs for a dealer to replace?

£30 for a new exhaust!? Its worth the drive up for that!

Whats actually happening (or so I've been told by my dealer) is the outer casing is rusting - the actual exhaust is inside this casing so its nothing to worry about. I was told they'd cut it off for me if I wanted so that the exhaust didn't look naff, but I decided it wasn't worth the effort as even though its really rotten and has holes in it would offer some extra protection! You see loads of minis with really knackered exhausts - mine is one of them! Won't be changing it until it has to be for MOT!!! You could paint it, but if you can get a new exhaust for £30 you may as well do that!
