Wifes convertible boot won't open!

First post so here goes - My wifes 2004 one convertible boot refuses to open. At the moment I've tied a piece of string to the emergency internal handle so she can pull it to open it - but obviously I'm under pressure to fix it!
I've had the boot apart and put a meter on the switch and it is switching 12V so that works OK. I was hoping this 12V would go straight to the solenoid but the wires go back to the ECU I think. Connector on solenoid shows no voltage across the two wires when I operate the switch so my fear is it is either wiring between the boot and ECU or the ECU itself. I'd appreciate anyones thoughts / experiences.

My boot also wouldn't open and after reading several different theories on several different forums about water in switches, locks, lights and boots unlocking when turning lights on and off etc., I thought I'd better add to the list,what I later found to be my problem.
After pulling all of the above, apart unnecessarily, I found it to be broken wires inside the flexible rubber sheathing where the wires pass from the boot lid to the body. I cut out and soldered new wires in their place and it now works fine.
