How Many Gear Boxes Have You Had?

Hi all,

imagine my surprise when after 6 years of ownership and 60,000 miles my girlfriends 54 reg mini one has eaten yet another gearbox.

Thats 3 boxes in total, we're about to fit the 4th (this time out of warranty). surely this isn't the norm with these cars???

so that leads me the next question, how many boxes has your mini broken?

points for lower mileages and younger cars..

and ill collate this info and put it in my polite letter to the BMW Mini team..

Thanks..

the car 'allegedly' has the getrag box in it as its registered after june 2004. im still trying to ascertain the true identity of the box though.

Im sure that BMW wouldn't replace the broken gearbox with a part thats has a known fault? although if i find out they have.........

It's Build Date not Registration Date you need to know

FAQ: How can I find out when my MINI was built?

The getrag 5 speed box isn't that reliable anyway.the bearings are very prone to wear, and make a hell of noise under load in 1st and 2nd gear. I had my box replaced at 40,000 miles (out of warranty-just) with a 2nd hand unit, as spares were not available. I've done 10,000 on the replacement and no problems so far! (touching the table!!)

Clubbin' it and Lovin' it
