smokey diesel.....turbo seals ?

Hi,
I'm on my second mini now. i seem to of had all the usual faults, power steering pump, new gear box, steering rack and airbag light!!!
i had a cooper originally and now have a mini one diesel 53 36k

Just recently on tick over sometimes the revs seem to drop and come back on just ever so slightly. you can hardly see the rev counter move.
i also noticed that the oil level was in the middle of the markers. i had an oil change about 4k ago and she has never used oil before.
Whislt coming down a long steep road and dropped it to 2nd to go around a left turn, a following friend said there was lots of smoke as i accellerated away! i asked if it was white or blue he said it looked more like oil smoke and not black smoke.
it was ok after the initial smoke cleared.
i had a similar problem with a clio a few years back but not with the idle revs dropping but with a lot more smoke which turned out to be the seals on the turbo.

any insights as to what this could be would be gratefully received.
pesky minis are really getting on my nerves !!!

Strangely I have only recently started to notice this on my Gen 1 Diesel. Only smokes on higher revs & mine is nearing 150k so I don't think you have issues just yet. :-)
