DIY Help! windows and sunroof magically open by themselves even when locked and parked!

Hi Guys,

PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP ME??

I own a MINI cooper S - 2002. I locked the car and left it at lunchtime, came back to find all the windows and the sunroof open! As soon as I tried to put one of them up the car would then re- open them!
Also the doors unlocked and I could hear repeated clicking noises.

The car does this when I am driving it (not safe for me as a woman driver plus it's freezing!) aswell as when it is parked.

My only solution thus far has been to disconnect the battery in order to stop it doing it.

Anybody got any ideas on what the problem is? Is it because of the extreme cold weather???

PLEASE HELP ME

Hi,

this sounds familiar as mine did the same thing a couple of years ago, as well as the windows and sun roof the window wipers had a mind of their own as did the lights and the alarm kept going off. i though it had a poltergiest .

anyhow mine went into the garage and they replaced the 'brain' in it, i think this might be refered to as the BCU? sorry no expert, £700 later it was fixed, i wasnt amused i have since read about disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes or so which i hope works for yours, only wish i had tried that with mine first

i have actually had trouble with mine over the last couple of days, it wouldnt start, maybe because of the extreme cold like you were saying, but while trying the window went down on its own and the lights came on even though not switched on, i am hoping its just the battery as jump started it earlier and got it going and it started ok for the rest of the day.

hope you have got to bottom of your problem, maybe the BCU has just got damp or wonder if they can freeze and that affects them?

Elaine

If it is the BC1 these links below should help:
The BC1 (Body Control Unit) - Forums

The BC1 (Body Control Unit)

BC1 faults (it controls alot of things) are often related to water ingress shorting out connectors or causing corrosion inside, from a leaking windscreen, door seal or sunroof if fitted.

Reconditioned Exchange BC1 (Body Control Module) are now available from BBA-Reman for a lot less than a new unit from BMW:

Mine did the exact same thing when the driver's door locking unit failed in the 'open' position; this combined with 'comfort opening' feature. Take off the door panel (start on the side that sees most action, usually driver's side) and disconnect the wire from the unit, if the problem stops, there's your culprit.
