whistling/squeeking noise coming from the rear of the car

Hi guys please help

Over the last few months I've noticed a whistling/ sqeeking noise coming from the rear of my car (2002 cooper s). The noise randomly comes on while driving. Usually I drive 15/20 before the noise comes on. It does not usually come on at high or low speed, normally at 30-50mph.

I thought it could be something to do with the rear boot lid. Sometimes it takes a few attempts to close it properly. Could it be possible that the noise is from air whistling through a small gap in the rear bootlid? The reason I think its bootlid related is when I open and close the boot the noise goes away for 5-10mins or so. But that could be because I stop to open and close the bootlid.

I just wondered if Any1 else had a similar noise and if u think its boot lid related or something else. Shall I change the boot lid lock?

You could try adjusting the two bump stops for the hatch. winding them in a fraction might help.

ended up getting my brakes cleaned and that dd the job

I used to have a noise like this when I cornered hard. But then I started to leave the wife at home and it stopped.
