Boot Catch Opens When Lights Are Turned Off??

Hi,

My 2003 Mini Cooper S seems to have a mind of its own!
Arrived at work the other morning and turned the engine off, pulled the key out, then turned the lights off. Only to hear the boot catch open! I have seen a similar thread to this but still not sure what is happening...
The boot catch will even open on its own sometimes with the car stood still not running..
I am aware that the back of the mini's get very dirty and have already had problem with the number plate lights and water getting in which has now been resolved with plenty of silicone and paint on electrical tape

Has anyone had the same problem or know what is happening? Does the complete rear handle need changing or is there a way to fix it?
I have also heard that it could be the BCU but think it is more to do with the rear boot catch/button.

Any help would be great!

I have an 02 Cooper. In the hand book it says that when the car is unlocked if you hold down the unlock button on the key fob for a few seconds the boot lock releases to the first catch (to make it easier to open). I had the car for 4 years before I found out about this. Problem may be in the key fob or the sensor in the lock mechanism?

Thats a new one to me too...

Im not sure if that is just the Coopers and one's..
But when I hold my unlock button down for a few seconds the windows go down!
Wether it is supposed to do this or not I don't know but its pretty cool!

I think the problem is all down to moisture is the rear switch..
