Angry Clutch (maybe gerbox) rattle, ask for a advice (inc video)

Hi everybody,

I'm new at this forum. Unfortunatelly the reason, why I had to post this thread is not happy at all.

I bought my MC (2006-06) on August 2010. So far everything was great with no problem at all. I love my MC.

BUT about 60 day ago a noticed some strange sound coming from under the bonnet of my MINI.

It is rattle sound (not much loud at all), but it goes off whet clutch is pressed.

I know that there are some old topic related to this problem, but I thought that it might be better to start new thread.

Some say that is is clutch problem, some say that it is gearbox problem. (Note that my MINI has 31 thousand miles on it and has Getrag gearbox!!!)

So I made a short video to show you how does is sound.

(best to hear at about 0:35)

Please note that it is garage so the sound is not that loud and has a bit lower tone.

What do you think guys?

Thanks for any advice!

Doesn't really sound like a bearing-but get the gearbox oil level checked anyway.

Try gently pushing against the gearstick through all gears without dipping the clutch ( obviously with the handbrake firmly on!) -if you can hear the noise change or go then gearbox/linkage related it is. also try gently pressing the clutch in without disengaging the gearbox, if again the noise goes or subsides then maybe the release bearing. However, to me it sounds like something very loose or if i was to put money on it gear linkage (pressure on a syncro) in which case the gearstick test will reveal the problem.

i'll place a bet on throwout bearing, but if any little pressure on the clutch pedal quiets it then it may be another bushing - release fork.
