Now then
A few months ago we noticed a 'rattle' come 'loud ticking' coming from the engine compartment. Push the clutch in and it disappears, let it out again and it re-appears. Also, once on the move we don't here it until over 80mph when it turn's into a noise vibration if that makes sense.
I've been told by one mechanic, who isn't a Mini specialist by the way, that he think's it's the double flywheel coupling ?
I was told yesterday by the guy's at Motoscope
http://www.motoscope.co.uk/
a local company to me that I've used previously for performance bits etc for my cars and who fit the Induction Kit yesterday that they think it's the gearbox. They've had a few New Generation Mini's in and one had the same problem. The Guy raced and told them it was the gearbox/ flywheel bearing ? and that he wanted them to change it. They took it out and spun it with no effort or problems so told him they thought it was the gearbox. Anyway, he decided to change the bearing only and get the gearbox put back in. They started it up and low and behold the noise was still there. He got the gearbox changed and 'hey presto', no noise
So my question is, I have a 6 speed gearbox in my 2003 Cooper S, does anyone know if this is a regular problem and know what exactly it is without actually hearing mine
Cheers
