Thought the gears on my girlfriends 53 plate cooper s are awfully sticky, mostly when cold in 1st, 2nd and reverse.
Having had it serviced (my friend works at toyota garage that did it) they confirmed that it is sticky in comparison to one they have in stock but when they checked autodata with changing the gearbox oil in mind it shows that the gearbox oil never needs changed. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or suffered a similar problem?

Change the gearbox oil regardless of so called 'filled for life' claims by car manufacturers.........they do not care if your gearbox fails once outside their warranty, they won't be paying for repairs!

Also, look at the clutch slave. Pull back the dust boot to check for fluid, if it's wet underneath replace the slave. When the seal blows shifting becomes difficult progressing to no ability to shift at all.

Does anyone know where I can get the oil at a decent price? Best I can find is £80+ for 5 litres but it only needs 1.9 so 2 litres would be fine.

My local BMW MINI parts dealership did not stock the special MTF 94 Manual Transmission Fluid recommended for my MINI! (nor did Halfords or any other local car spares retailers).
I eventually found it stocked in the Land Rover Dealer Parts Dept next door to the MINI dealer in Thames Ditton, Surrey for £7.50 per litre bottle (2 Litres required) LR Part No. STC 9158. It is used in several Land Rover, Rover and Honda gearboxes.
